The new study from the University of Aquila in Italy, shows that consuming chocolate every day, can protect your brain from cognitive impairment.

I heard nobody say “No” when somebody comes up to them and offers them a nice piece of chocolate, be it brown, white, or black, we as people seem to never refuse chocolate and a recent study shows that is a good thing for all the chocolate lovers out there to keep consuming, since it is good for the brain. First of all, chocolate is full of antioxidants and iron which is good for you, but besides all that, researchers have found a compound in cocoa called flavanol, which leads to positive long term results.

Flavanol help with the memory and concentration but besides all that, it also improves blood flow, reducing so blood clots, it helps with teeth and it reduced the chances of a heart attack or a stroke. Valentina Socci, which is an author in this Italian research says: “Regular intake of cocoa and chocolate could indeed provide beneficial effects on cognitive functioning over time,” It can also help with stress and decrease the levels of depression.

In case you are wondering on the amount you should take, Valentina suggests maintaining your diet to an ounce per day, since it has somewhere between 150-200 calories and has a huge number of benefits. Is good for people that suffer from diabetes and it also helps with the decrease of the bad, high levels of cholesterol in your blood. “While no food is a miracle-worker, I’m a huge proponent of treating yourself with chocolate daily,” says Valentina. So for everyone who is a big chocolate lover, you can consume your hot cup of milk with some and feel healthier than ever.
