Brooke Shields has spent decades captivating audiences with her talent, grace, and timeless beauty. But these days, the spotlight isn't just on her — it's also on her two daughters. Here's a closer look at the actress's girls, their bond with their mother, and how they are making their mark.
Brooke Shields rose to fame as a child star, captivating audiences with her roles in films like “The Blue Lagoon” and “Endless Love.” Over the years, she became a Hollywood icon. But beyond the glitz and glamour, she is also a devoted mother.
In 2001, she married screenwriter and producer Chris Henchy, and the couple went on to have two daughters who have grown up under the public's watchful eye while carving out their identities.
Meet Rowan Francis Henchy – Brooke Shields' Eldest Daughter
Brooke and her producer husband became parents for the first time on May 15, 2003, when they welcomed their daughter, Rowan Francis, after a long journey with fertility treatments.
Growing up in New York City, Rowan was always close to her mother, and their strong bond was evident in many heartfelt moments over the years.
One of Rowan's most significant milestones came in June 2021 when she graduated from high school, and at the ceremony, she even performed a song.
At her senior prom, Rowan made a sentimental fashion statement and wore the same red strapless gown that Brooke had worn to the 1998 Golden Globe Awards.
Seeing her daughter in the dress was an emotional moment for Brooke, who shared on Instagram, “I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom. Proud mama!”
In another touching mother-daughter moment, Brooke and Rowan decided to get matching ladybug tattoos to commemorate her graduation. The design had a special meaning, as Little Bug had been Rowan's childhood nickname.
Though Brooke had hoped her daughter would wait until her 30s to get her first tattoo, she could not resist Rowan's heartfelt request. “She played me really well because she said, ‘Well, will you get one with me?' And of course, she knew I would say yes to that,” Brooke admitted.
“So, she got what she wanted. I felt like she wanted something to do with her mother. When you have teenagers, you take what you can get,” the actress added.
Then, just a couple of months later, Rowan packed her bags for college, heading to Wake Forest University in North Carolina. For Brooke, the transition was anything but easy.
She openly admitted, “I'm not ever going to get used to her being gone. She's going to be married with her own children, and I'm still not going to be used to her being gone.”
As Rowan settled into her new life at college, her mom was proud and emotional. The actress reflected, “She's really living her life, she's enjoying college, she's just really blossoming and growing.”
“I listen to the way they talk to each other and their friends and the things they're discussing, and you think, ‘Wow, she's really her own person and I've done my best in my job and I'm going to try to get out of her way,'” Brooke continued.
Rowan's younger sister also admired her free-spirited nature. In August 2024, she shared, “She knows how not to be stressed by what other people think, which is something I need to learn. And if I need her to have my back, she will.”
From her artistic talents to her independent spirit, Rowan has grown into a confident young woman who continues to make her mother proud.
Meet Grier Hammond Henchy – Brooke Shields' Lookalike Youngest Daughter
On April 18, 2006, Brooke, then 41, and Chris welcomed their second daughter, Grier Hammond, in Los Angeles. Now a teenager, Grier has developed a passion for fashion and modeling — two things she seems to have inherited from her famous mom.
Brooke joked that she knew exactly where to look if something went missing from her closet. “My younger [daughter] is extremely into fashion,” she shared.
When Brooke notices a designer item has disappeared, Grier is usually the culprit. “If I want to know where anything good that I have is, and I can't find it in my closet, I know exactly where to find it. It's her!” Brooke said.
The actress recalled one of Grier's go-to responses when confronted about taking clothes. “And she's [like], ‘Oh, I forgot to give that back to you.' I'm like, ‘You also forgot to ask me to borrow it. So let's go back, back up a bit,'” Brooke said, laughing.
Unlike her older sister, Grier has an eye for luxury fashion. “She's just a little bit of a label monger,” Brooke admitted. “[Rowan]'s like, ‘Mom, it doesn't matter to me.' They're completely the opposite.”
Beyond her love for high fashion, Grier has begun following in her famous mother's modeling footsteps. According to her Instagram bio, she is represented by IMG Models Worldwide, a modeling agency.
Though Brooke initially resisted her daughter's interest in the industry, she eventually came around — but not without setting some firm boundaries. “So I fought it for so long and it's such a different industry now than it was. She's interested in Runway and that's brutal and backstage is just brutal […],” she stated.
“[…] I finally had to sort of give in and say, ‘Okay, if you're gonna do this — A, I'm not gonna be your manager. You're going to be with an agency. You are gonna have a great work ethic. It's not gonna be comfortable and you're gonna listen to me […],'” Brooke added.
An interest in modeling isn't the only thing Grier inherited from her mother. Many social media users also pointed out just how much she resembles a young Brooke, drawing comparisons between their striking features.
“Gorgeous like your mom,” one social media user commented on an Instagram post that Grier shared, which included a snap of her and her famous mom. “Wow. You are Brooke Shields MINI ME for sure! GORG!” another person remarked.
A third social media user wrote in part, “You're so beautiful. You look just like your mom,” while another typed, “Gorgeous just like her mama.” A fifth commented, “Like two 💧 drops of water!”
In April 2024, Brooke took to Instagram to share a photo dump in honor of Grier's 18th birthday, and another person wrote in part, “She looks like a mini you.”
Beyond being a mother trying to be a good influence on her daughters, Brooke's girls have also taught her valuable lessons. Reflecting on how her approach to self-care has evolved, Brooke credited them with changing her perspective.
“I've gotten so much better at it through my girls, because they love beauty, and beauty to them is a form of self-care. And I've learned through them that if I put a little more time and effort into myself […] I hold myself differently,” the actress shared.
For years, the Hollywood star saw beauty as just another part of her job, separate from her personal life. But, through Rowan and Grier, she began to embrace self-care as something meaningful.
“They've actually taught me, ‘It's okay, Mom. You don't have to always be productive or always be doing something for somebody,'” the actress added. “They are young women who are already beginning to find their own agencies,” she noted.
Brooke Shields' daughters may have grown up in the spotlight but are forging their paths. Through style, unbreakable bonds, and undeniable resemblance, Rowan and Grier each carry a piece of their mother's legacy while becoming unique individuals.
