We’ve all thought about what we’d do if we ever bought that lucky lottery ticket. If you’ve ever mentioned it around friends, there’s most likely been someone who’d donate everything to others in need. Here’s one nameless jackpot winner who’s really doing it.
In 2018, a Carolina-based woman was lucky enough to win $1.5B as a Mega Millions lottery prize. Preferring to remain nameless, she received what was the biggest US lottery windfall ever. She chose to accept a $878M total payout.
The nameless winner gave a huge proportion of her winnings to charitable causes. Among those, some who were affected by tornados in Alabama, which killed more than 20 people recently.
The anonymous winner spoke with Inside Edition, saying: “I do realize that such good fortune carries a tremendous social responsibility, and it gives me a unique opportunity to assist, support and contribute to charities and causes that are close to my heart”.
Her attorney, Mr. Kurland, wouldn't comment on the exact amount she gave away, but he revealed that it had been “substantial.”
He continued: “All the charities were extremely happy”.
The public had tried guessing who the jackpot winner was since the lottery ended last year. Mr. Kurland reports that the lucky winner only got a ticket as a passing fancy, on seeing highway advertisements for the winning amount.
He revealed: “She decided to take a chance and purchase a ticket, never once thinking she had the slightest chance to win.”
The lucky winner only wants to “live a life of relative normalcy, free of fear.”
