Flight delays are something that we dread as we pack our luggage ready to take a break and head to our holiday destination. It causes stress and can be very nerve-racking. While most cases of flight delays can be due to logistics and bad weather, an increasing number of flights have been delayed as a result of single passengers.
Kristen Wiley was sitting on a Alaska Airlines Flight 748 taking off from Seattle-Tacoma airport. The flight was delayed for approximately 45 minutes. Kristen became alert of this and noticed that the flight crew were surrounding one passenger and she decided to take some photos to update her Facebook profile with a post describing what was happening.
The post said:
We are currently sitting on a plane, with a 45 minute delay. Why? Because there is an elderly woman suffering from dementia, who is very upset and confused.”
The poor elderly woman was confused and was unsure on what was going on. She was clearly very frightened. Surprisingly, the woman found comfort eventually in her guard dog whom she cuddles as she felt that he was familiar, and it made matters more clear for her.
“The incredible staff of #alaskaairlines is being extremely patient and compassionate, in what can only be a very scary situation for her. Explaining every step, cuddling her dog, working with her husband/caregiver to find the best solution.”
Kristen appreaciated and saw how the cabin crew treated the woman with compassion and understanding and was certainly not mad that her flight had been delated. It gave her comfort knowing that she was on a plane with honourable and kind people. With the tragedies that we hear occurring all over the world, it is nice to hear that there are some sweet and inspirational stories that still prevail.
The elderly woman was then escorted with her dog and husband off the plane and the other passengers were provided a summary of their reasons behind this. It was the simple matter that the woman was not ready to take the flight in her current stressed state. Alaska Airlines also offered her a generous offer.
“Alaska Airlines calmly assisted the woman, her husband/caregiver and sweet pup off the plane, providing hotel and transportation with plans to rest up and try again the following day. Again, incredible compassion given to the both of them while quietly explaining the situation to other passengers.”
It is great that Kristen has shared this story as it sheds light on the compassion that is shown by not only individuals but also large companies as well.
“This is how I would want my mother, my sister, my aunt, my daughter, my niece, my friend cared for. “
This sweet story is a reminder that people and companies still do good deeds that can make our day shine more. It also restores our faith in humanity.
