Research Shows Eating Chocolate Cake For Breakfast Is Good For Your Brain And Waistline

Do you love chocolate? We have some very good news for you! It may sound too good to be true, but eating chocolate is actually good for your health according to a study.

Although you would think that eating chocolate can be bad for your health, after conducting a study at Syracuse University, scientists found out that if you consume chocolate early in the day, you are actually doing your brain and your waistline a big favor!

The purpose of the study was to measure the effects of chocolate consumption on 968 people between the ages of 23 and 98 without changing their overall diet.

These were the results:

“Habitual chocolate intake was related to cognitive performance, measured with an extensive battery of neuropsychological tests,”the researchers wrote. “More frequent chocolate consumption was significantly associated with better performance on [these tests].”

It seems that chocolate has a very positive effect on memory and abstract thinking, cool huh? Eating chocolate for breakfast also helps you work harder; you can get more done in a shorter amount of time.  But it doesn´t end there, chocolate is not only good for your brain it is also good for physical health, eating chocolate cake regularly can help if you want to lose weight because the brain needs energy the moment you wake up. Your body is able to process the carbs and sugar more efficiently in the morning so that it doesn’t settle as fat on your body:

When you wake up, your brain needs energy immediately,”said Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz “This is the time of the day when your body converts food into energy. Later in the day, when you eat, your body and brain are still in high-alert mode, saving the energy from food as fat reserve. This is how you gain weight even eating less.”

Also Chocolate especially dark chocolate contains something called flavonoids also found in plant-based foods and wine. Flavonoids have an antioxidant effect on the brain and improve blood flow to and within it, it is said that it protects against a decline in mental ability as we grow older.

So if you are planning to eat some chocolate or you are craving it, try to wait until the next morning and consume it before 9 AM ideally! Chocolate is not your enemy or a forbidden treat anymore, enjoy it while having breakfast and be happy!
