Raising and educating a human being must be one of the hardest jobs in the world. When you have a child you don’t receive a manual on how to prepare him or her for life, so the responsibility is big and the fear is real.
Nowadays with commercials on television and the high amount of content on social media, it is very difficult not to get influenced by morally questionable media. Raising responsible, confident and brave children, especially daughters can be very difficult. Every single day girls face all kinds of pressure, unrealistic standards of beauty, popularity and what not.
Taking all this into account, what is the best thing you can do as a parent? Be pushy! According to a study girls with moms who tend to set high standards for them growing up are more likely to go to college, earn higher notes and succeed in life. But that´s not all, these same girls with nagging moms are less likely to get pregnant as teenagers, so being pushy as a mother is not so bad after all, isn´t it? Apparently nagging has an effect when children act like they are not listening, which happens most of the time right? According to the study “In many cases, we succeeded in doing what we believed was more convenient for us, even when this was against our parents’ will. But no matter how hard we tried to avoid our parents’ recommendations, it is likely that they ended up influencing…choices.”
What happens if your daughter slams the door in your face? That means is working! So if your teenage daughter rolls her eyes and says something like, ” Mom, you're so annoying,” what she really means, deep down is “Thank you for the helpful advice” and she will definitely be grateful in the future!
If you are a mother and those small arguments you have on a daily basis with your daughter make you feel frustrated, take a deep breath and think that you are really doing a good job, you are doing her a favor. It may be very annoying now for her, but in the future she will look back and remember all that nagging with a smile on her face.
Now is the time to spread the word about this and advice other moms not to stop nagging because it actually works!
