‘Completely Different Person’: Fans Say ‘Bridget Jones’ Star Renée Zellweger, 55, Looks ‘Unrecognizable’ in Recent Photos

Renée Zellweger became the talk of the town after a magazine released photoshoot pictures of her. Many netizens questioned whether the person in the images was truly the actress, as they felt she didn't look like herself.

On January 15, 2025, British Vogue shared several images of Renée Zellweger, celebrating her return as its cover story for February. The 55-year-old actress sported a boyish haircut as she posed for various pictures, prompting numerous comments from netizens and fans.

The star was promoting the upcoming movie “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.” Reflecting on her iconic Bridget Jones character, which she first played in 2001, Zellweger expressed, “I love her.”

Responding to British Vogue's Instagram photo of the actress dressed in a pink shirt and black trousers cinched with a belt, one surprised netizen commented“She had such an attractive, cute, unique look before – she looks like a different person now. Hard to believe that is even her!”

An equally shocked fan noted“She doesn't even look like the same person 😳. Really pretty, but not the same face. It's crazy. Airbrushing, and cosmetic surgery has shaved 20 years off her face. ✌️❤️(sic)”

A third person criticized“Look, I'm am (sic) 100% for people doing what they want and looking how they want to look, but when your job is literally to emote with your face and you paralyze your face, I don't know what I'm supposed to think. I don't believe them when they are acting!”

After seeing a black-and-white photo of the actress in an oversized wool coat, a white tank top, and loose trousers with a belt, one commenter claimed“It's not photoshop. It's called plastic surgery, Botox and filler. (sic)”

Someone surprised by Zellweger's appearance asked“Is this Renee??? (sic) I can't believe it. She is unrecognizable,” while another added“She looks like a completely different person 😮.”

Another fan remarked“Wow she looks so different with her pixie cut ♥️ can't wait for #bridgetjonesmadabouttheboy. (sic)” Even Reddit users joined the discussion, with one stating“I think she's had a facelift.”

A confused user asked“Did they generate these photos with AI? They look plastic and uncanny,” while another speculated“These photos of Renée Zellweger do not look anything like Renée Zellweger. Her skull shape seems to have changed.”

Zellweger's “Bridget Jones” co-star, Hugh Grant, interviewed her for the British Vogue issue. When Grant asked if her life had changed over the last 25 years, she replied, “Probably. There used to be a line between celebrity and art.”

The actor also inquired whether she felt grouped with people who only want fame, questioning if others believed she aimed to become a celebrity rather than an actor.

Zellweger responded, “The line has become increasingly ambiguous. And notorious and famous and known are now all the same thing. It used to be that you were known because you had done something that was worth knowing about.”

Grant then asked why she took an acting hiatus between 2010 and 2016. The actress simply explained that she needed to, elaborating, “I was sick of the sound of my own voice. When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?' It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”

During her break, she stayed busy writing music and studying international law. She shared, “I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs. I got healthy.”

The star also discussed why the “Bridget Jones” franchise still resonates with fans. She said, “What I think is, don't you meet a lot of people who say, ‘I am Bridget Jones!' I think maybe folks recognize themselves in her and relate to her struggles and feelings of self-doubt.”

Zellweger continued, “Bridget is authentically herself and doesn't always get it right, but whatever her imperfections, she remains joyful and optimistic, carries on and triumphs in her own way.”

She added, “She seems to make her quirky individuality and shortcomings charming, lovable, and acceptable—and, in turn, she makes us feel lovable and acceptable too. And she celebrates originality, which I think is pretty special, especially now when everybody conforms because they want to be the thing that gets the most approval. Although I don't have Instagram, so I don't have that in my brain, personally.”

The star's latest movie is set for release on February 13, 2025, co-starring Grant and Colin Firth. On November 12, 2024, Universal Pictures released the thrilling official trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.”
