New York man searches for owner of stuffed monkey left in car on September 11, 2001

A New York man is on a mission to find the owner of a stuffed animal that was left in his car on September 11, 2001.

Abe Wachsman, 73, was driving in Manhattan on the day of the attack and helped a couple and their toddler flee. After he dropped the family off, he noticed the child left behind a stuffed monkey.

It’s been 20 years since the attack, and the monkey has sat in every one of Wachsman’s cars. Now he wants to find the monkey’s rightful owner.

“The experience was searing enough, you want to preserve every element of it, bringing it into the house didn’t seem to be the appropriate thing to do,” Wachsman said.

The Queens resident explained to WABC that while trying to get out of Lower Manhattan on September 11, he saw a family of three also trying to leave the city.

He gave them a ride and eventually dropped them off along the FDR Drive near the 20s – they were staying at a hotel in Chelsea. Although during the rush to escape no one exchanged information.

Recently, his daughter posted about the monkey online hoping that someone might remember the monkey.

Wachsman, who is seriously ill and would really like to reunite the monkey with its family, believes the family he met on September 11 were tourists.

If you recognize the monkey or know who its owner may be, the toddler would be in their early 20s, email [email protected]

This is such a sweet story! I sincerely hope that the monkey finds its way back to its original owner.
