Ellen DeGeneres has landed herself in trouble yet again for her response about Simone Bile’s decision to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics.
Things have only just begun to settle in relation to her recent controversies.
Scroll down to find out what she said…
Earlier this week, Simone Biles announced she was pulling out of the USA gymnastics team final.
The announcement was made following her shocking error on the vault, which resulted in getting her lowest score in years.
Biles said her decision allowed her to focus on her mental health.
People around the world have praised her for this.
However Ellen DeGeneres was among those that responded to her news…
Which has resulted in her show being “canceled,” yet again. Here’s why…
Biles is a regarded as an American treasure.
Simone has quickly become one of the most talented and successful gymnasts in the world at the age of twenty four.
In 2016 at the Summer Olympic she became famous.
Biles practiced gymnastics since the age of 6, and has become a 5-time Olympic medalist and fourteen-time world champion.
Life wasn’t always easy for Simone.
She was originally born in Columbus, Ohio, where she and her siblings were in and out of foster care because of their parent’s drug and alcohol addictions.
Simone and her younger sister, Adria, were adopted by their maternal grandparents when she was just six.
Her grandfather, Ron, and grandmother, Nellie, took the girls in as their own, and even suggested that they call them “mom” and “dad.” Simone recalls the moment that her parents signed away their guardianship: “She said, ‘It’s up to you guys. If you want to, you can call us mom and dad.’ I went upstairs and tried practicing it in the mirror—‘mom, dad, mom, dad.’ Then I went downstairs, and she was in the kitchen. I looked up at her and I was like, ‘mom?’ She said, ‘Yes!’ ”
Simone began practicing gymnastics at a young age.
She first tried gymnastics at just 6-years-old as part of a day-care field trip, where the instructors saw her potential and suggested that she continue with the sport. This led her to enrolling in an optional training program at Bannon’s Gymnastix.
From there Simone just kept getting better.
Simone went on to compete in, and win, fourteen world championships with training from her coach, Aimee Boorman, and eventually gained attention from all over the world.
Simone has become one of our country’s greatest Olympic champions.
In 2016, at her first Olympic games in Rio she won 4 gold medals 3 individual and 1 team, which along with four others is the most gold medals won by a female gymnast in a single game.
After the Olympics, however, Simone took a year out.
Simone was starting to feel burnt out, so she decided to step out of the gym for twelve months, “I was so physically exhausted that I needed the break. Mentally and physically – I had earned it.”
Has always been open about attending therapy.
Biles felt gymnastics was beginning to become toxic to her and that there were times when she found herself dreading going to the gym to train.
“I go to therapy to help with that because there were times when I didn’t want to set foot in a gym. But am I going to let that keep me from my passion and the goals that I still have? It’s just another bump you have to get over.”
This break resulted in Biles returning in full force.
Simone returned to competition after her year out for the World Championships in 2018 where she came out on top despite a few falls during her performances.
Her return to made the headlines!
Simone made history by becoming the first-ever gymnast to land a double-twisting, double somersault dismount from the balance beam in a match at the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championship in Kansas City, Missouri.
This fine athlete didn’t stop there…
The very next day, the gymnast went on to become the first woman to perfect the triple-twist, double-flip move in her first pass on floor. One of these moves may even be named after her!
And, of course, Simone has remained as humble as ever.
She commented on her marvellous win “It wasn’t as good as in training. I’m just happy that I landed it because I feel like after night one, my confidence got shot down. So I was really worried about it going into today, that’s all I could worry about. So I was really happy.”
Her talent is amazing people can’t take their eyes off her.
Now, Simone has spoken out about a much more controversial issue.
Larry Nassa, USA Gymnastics trainer was jailed for his sexual assaults against a series of young athletes. Netflix released a story on this called Athlete A.
However for Simone, this just isn’t acceptable…
She has voiced her concerns on the topic.
“It’s far from over. There’s still a lot of questions that still need to be answered,” she said. “Just who knew what, when? You guys have failed so many athletes — and most of us underage. You guys don’t think that’s a bigger problem?”
“We bring them medals. We do our part.”
“You can’t do your part in return? It’s just, like, it’s sickening.”
Simone has said she wouldn’t even let her own daughter compete in U.S gymnastics.
“Because I don’t feel comfortable enough, because they haven’t taken accountability for their actions and what they’ve done. And they haven’t ensured us that it’s never going to happen again.”
Despite everything she’s been through, this woman has shown the world what she’s made of…
She has made history again!
Recently Simone landed what they are calling the hardest vault in in women’s gymnastic history..
Simone attempted a Yurchenko double pike at the 2021 GK U.S. Classic, this a seriously dangerous vault and could end an athlete’s career if done incorrectly. The judges scored a 9.5 for her execution.
Simone commented:
“To finally just put it out in a competition was quite nice, I know it’s not the correct value that we want, but I can still do it, so why not show off my ability and athleticism.”
This woman is an absolute inspiration to everyone! However, things haven’t exactly gone the way she hoped at the Tokyo Olympics today…
Biles withdrew from the lineup after making an error on her vault in the opening minutes of the competition.
Simone was expected to lead the U.S to gold in the team event…However it just wasn’t meant to be.
Astatement from USA Gymnastics said:
“Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”
Biles left the arena after the mishap, before returning to support her teammates with her foot taped up.
The gymnast told us: “Yes, I’m okay. Just dealing with things internally that will get fixed out within the next couple of days. But super proud of how they stepped up to the plate tonight and worked.“
It has since been revealed that Biles’ with withdrew citing mental health concerns.
In a statement, USA Gymnastics said: “After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles was withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health. Simone will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week’s individual event finals. Jade Carey, who had the ninth-highest score in qualifications, will participate in her place in the all-around.”
Biles told reporters:
“Whenever you get in a high stress situation, you kind of freak out. I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being.”
Naturally, Biles’ withdrawal is a huge disappointment…
In general most people have been very supportive praising the young woman’s decision to prioritise her mental health…
Biles even received the support of several famous faces.
Michelle Obama wrote onTwitter: “Am I good enough? Yes, I am. The mantra I practice daily. @Simone_Biles, we are proud of you and we are rooting for you. Congratulations on the the silver medal, Team @USA!”
While Uzo Adub said this “is what a champion looks like.”
And Hoda Kotb wrote: “Someone said it best @Simone_Biles has already won. She is a class act. Withdrew from team competion after vault… stayed and cheered on her teammates… got them chalk for their hands.. encouraged.. hugged them. She already won. Congrats on the silver medal!”
Also among those famous faces sending Biles a message of support was Ellen DeGeneres.
However it appears her tweet didn’t go down too well…
Ellen DeGeneres responded to Biles’ news with the following tweet:
